I love Dr. Who as well. I think of the Tardis as the guiding principle-concept of my design work.
Even my smallest house design, 10 feet x 10 feet on the outside, can provide two to four bed-rooms (each accommodating up to two people), plus kitchen, bath, storage, and living-dining space, on the inside. The same/similar pattern can be expanded in size in response to what can be afforded and the desired level of amenity.
(The principle being, no matter how little you can afford, with good design, it can always be sufficient).
