Closure for the dying dog Empty
PostSubject: Closure for the dying dog   Closure for the dying dog Empty2/23/2014, 4:10 pm

A little before Christmas I wrote about a dog dying at the side of a road, and I spent some time with the dog and his lady owner until the dog died,Her husband then came along and I left. It was quite a heartfelt moment of life and the pain of change and death.
Last night I was in Penzance at a local boxing tornament where 2 of my boys were boxing along with other members of their small club, It was a Cornish event where all the Cornish clubs meet, there is quite a lot of bravado, broken noses  and swaggering walks, but even more respect for each other, and after each bout each opponents coach takes the gloves off their opponent and sprays water in their face and mouth, that is the tradition, all bouts end with a handshake 95% with a hug,
During the tornament a big broken nose swaggered up to me and patted me on the tummy, and said 'meaning to come and say something since the last show when I saw you, just to say thank you for being their for my wife and  dog, it meant a lot to us'. He was a boxing coach I asked how his wife was , and said thanks for coming over as I had often wondered how she was doing. It brought closure for me on a story or event in my life,in a place where I unwisely did not expect to find heart to heart communication.
As for bravado one of my boys won in 90 seconds and has been picked to box for Cornwall against the army in 2 weeks

CMH

I do remember well that story of the dying dog and also how your latest post illustrates that we just never know how our actions affect others, often to our great surprise.  Seemingly small acts of kindness can often have far reaching and multiplying effects on others and the greater world we live in, whether it's by the rugged shores of Cornwall or elsewhere.

I have had the privilege of companioning a dying dog several times in my life, my own and others. It has been a huge and transformative gift I received to experience that connection, and to offer my presence to these beings who have been such dear friends in me and to humanity in general.
