My daughter has just gone through the 2013 Burning man festival and said she learned many things about herself that she may not have every found elsewhere.
I've never gone but have watched various u tube videos on it. I would usually say that the deprivations and enforced social interactions of it was not my cup of tea...but I've also said that about a lot of monastic retreats and kayak expeditions.

Has anyone here ever gone?

Nice to see you here Howard.

Nope, haven't gone to Burning Man, but I've also seen some video about it.  It looks like what we used to call a "Happening" when I was growing up :-)

Good eye Michael!
I think these are called fox gloves and drew us off the sea while kayaking onto a small Northern Island to see what all the color was about.

When I asked my daughter if she'd go back to the Burning Man again, she said "Anytime with you, Dad".
Hence my question. The idea of a week long "happening" with 70,000 wildings in attendance and no easy escape route is a bit daunting.

Fox gloves are digitalis. They grow in the northwest and cheer us up because they grow in forgotten corners where there isn't much color.

i have never been to burning man, but many of my friends go.  It's a unique gathering, to say the least.  There are lots of videos and photo collections on line from this year and the big main event, when they burn the large wooden statue of the man is streamed live on the web.  The weather can sometimes be harsh so being there can be challenging.  Most people who go - find a group to go with - and often rent RV / mobile homes to stay in.  Tents sometimes work, but not when its cold, rainy or windy.  And many of the big art pieces and encampments are created over many months by different groups / tribes.  And there is a whole process involved before you go - i think you need to join a group in your area and connect to people, so you are well prepared for the adventure.  I think this year the weather was mild which makes things so much easier.
