I'm interested in reading more about the Four Noble Truths and Eightfold Path. Anyone have some good book recommendations?

hi June, I have one -- I like this by Thich Nhat Hanh, "The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching: transforming suffering into peace, joy & liberation : the four noble truths, the noble eightfold path, and other basic Buddhist teachings". Actually I like everything I've read that Thay has written, I'm biased that way --

There's another that I've loaned out to a friend and I'm drawing a blank on the author's name -- will send that along when I have it.

cheers,
L

Hi June99,

A good book is "What the Buddha Taught" by Walpola Rahula. In there you'll find a chapter for each one of the Four Noble Truths.

Hope that helps.

Yours,

Hi June,

I will add another vote for "The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching". The Dalai Lama also wrote a small book on the Four Noble Truths which you might like to seek out.

Hi June,

The simplest thing to do is to google "Four Noble Truth" - lots of choices then.

Or, and I almost hesitate to suggest it here, there is an excellent downloadable booklet by Rev Master Daizui at http://www.obcon.org/eightfold/eightfold.htm . Very readable and straightforward.

Kind regards,
George

Hi George,

I really rate RM Daizui - I like his introductory book to Buddhism too (name of it escapes me). He always struck me as very open to other Buddhist perspectives and seemed to have his own take on things that was not just a carbon copy of RM Jiyu's beliefs.

Hi Olly,

He was a fine human being and his early death was a loss to us all.

Best wishes,
George
