| https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gh2G4LG3Ezg I did this one to try to help the Edmonton Oilers (NHL ice hockey) ... "you must play like Smoke on the Frozen Water grasshopper" ... sadly my efforts seem to have been in vain | |

OK, you've got me curious. How do you create the environment for the videos where everything is dark except yourself and instrument? Are you literally in a pitch dark room with a spotlight or do you do this with software? Also, what camcorder do you have and which software app do you use for editing? I have an older camcorder that uses tape, but makes very nice video and am running Windows 7. I think it would be easier if I have a newer camcorder that records directly to flash media as I'm having some importing issues from tape. I've just started experimenting with all this and have a bit to learn still. It's easy-peasy my friend. I use a Logitech webcam, but not it's microphone. The mic I use is a standard 3 pin XLR which I USB into my computer with a little (cheap) gadget called a Blue Icicle (XLR to USB converter). When this is plugged in the Logitech software sees it and I can choose it from a drop-down list. The lighting is just an old Luxo desk lamp. I've never been worried about the video quality as the music has been my main concern. If I did want high quality video though, I'd dispense with my current setup and go with a good digital cam, most of which have VERY good microphones ... amazing when you consider that they're tiny little pinholes on the face of the camera ... modern technology eh! The software I use is Windows Movie Maker (comes with Windows) and a couple of shareware programs called Goldwave and Multiquence (a video/audio mixer) both available at a very reasonable price at: www.goldwave.com Goldwave is a straight audio editor/mixer and Multiquence is kind of the "Millennium Falcon" of video mixers in that, "she may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts" When I do a cyberjam, I download a Youtube video, slap on the headphones and record myself as I play along and then do the mix with Multiquence. If I add any effects I just use what's available in Windows Movie Maker ... here's an example using it's "Watercolor" effect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eH8qDKEygCo Lookin' forward to see what you come up with Cheers, Ian

Cheers, Ian I'm making some progress. The video shot with my tape based camcorder is importing correctly and I'm getting the feel for different editing software. I have the latest version of Windows Movie Maker which is very easy to use, however they appear to have removed the watercolor effect - that's a drag since I really like it! I wonder if there are additional effects that can be added? Another useful tool is Format Factory - it's a freeware video/audio conversion tool that will change file types and aspect ratios until the cows come home.

They removed the watercolour effect!! ... now that's a bit annoying! Thanks for the tip about Format Factory Isan ... I'll check it out. I vaguely remember that you can download other effects for WMM, but as I recall they are not free. Cheers, Ian
